Water Sports

Wakeboarding is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water behind a boat. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques.

Water Skiing is a sport where an individual is pulled behind a motor boat or a cable ski installation on a body of water. The skiier usually wears one or more skis and the surface area of the ski keeps the person skimming on the surface of the water allowing the skiier to stand upright while holding the tow rope. Wakeskating is new type of watersport and is an adaptation of wakeboarding that employs a similar design of board manufactured from plywood or from fibreglass. Unlike wakeboarding, the rider is not bound to the board in any way, which gives the sport its own unique challenges. Instead, the top surface of the board is covered with griptape, or a soft, high-traction, foam covering that is kinder to riders in the inevitable crashes. [more info]
Wakesurfing is a water sport in which a surfer trails behind an inboard ski boat, surfing the boat's wake without being directly attached to the boat. After getting up on the wave by use of a tow rope, wakesurfers drop the rope and ride the steep face below the wave's peak in a fashion reminiscent of ocean surfing. Wakesurfers generally use special boards, usually five feet or shorter. [more info]
Tubing usually takes place on a large body of water such as a lake or river. One or more tube riders (often called "tubers") tether their tubes to a powered watercraft such as a motor boat or a personal watercraft. The riders are then towed through the water by the watercraft. [more info]
Barefoot skiing is water skiing behind a motorboat without the use of water skis, commonly referred to as "barefooting". Barefooting requires the skier to travel at higher speeds than conventional water skiing. [more info]
